Kryptonite …

Ever wear the ‘bath towel’ cape as a kid?

I think a good number of us probably wanted to be Superman, or some other super hero and funny thing was almost all of my comic book heroes were ‘caped crusaders’. If you remember your super hero lore, you probably noticed the pattern that almost all of them have a weakness. That ONE weakness that could bring the Man of Steel to the ground (and could actually kill him) was Kryptonite.

Do you ever wonder in your CrossFit life what kind of Kryptonite you have?

While we’re not Superman, there are certain workouts or moves which can totally render you as vulnerable as the glowing green rock could to Mr. Kent’s alter ego. Everyone has a (hopefully short) list of things we do at the gym that you are not fond of, but what we are talking about is that one single movement we use in our training that makes you wanna call in sick.

What if you could identify your Kryptonite and turn it into your strength? Hey, you just might have the ability to be a Superman of some sort, right?

If you can’t think of one, how about:

  • before the start of the workout, is there always a split second when you consider quitting before we even start?
  • what makes you grunt and groan and grimace whenever they’re part of a workout?
  • maybe just looking for the ONE that completely destroys you when they are part of your workout.

Yeah, that’s the ticket to identifying your Kryptonite.

My hardest part?  Identifying a SINGLE one … I have so many …  Burpees? HSPU? Pistols? Rope Climbs?

Here’s the thing about that exercise you hate so much…

Whatever it is for you – do them. Do them a lot.

There is always something we do in CF that gives you that nervous sweat. If you take a moment to think about it, what can you do to embrace that movement you hate so passionately? While there isn’t a single right answer, THE right answer for you will be the one that makes you a fitter, better athlete. Remember:
